WHO ARE GWAR?

GWAR are the greatest metal band on earth, hailing from the planet Scumdoggia and also Antartica and also Richmond, Virginia !! They are here to destroy the human race, smoke crack, and play some sick music!!
Not just a metal band, GWAR is moreso an art collective - it's a group made up of comic artists, prop artists, VFX artists, music artists, and more!

I love GWAR because of how dedicated they are to their creative vision and their craft ! They'll have outrageous lyrics, do gross shit on stage, and kill whoever the fuck they want - cops, monarchy, priests, doesn't matter ! I have so much respect for their craft, their music, and their refusal to have their work censored. They may not be rich, they may not have received the same commercial success as other bands, but they are true artists. They're disgusting and gross and evil and I love them!

On June 14th 2023, I went with some friends to witness GWAR as they carried out their mission to destroy the UK !!

We had to travel to London to see them cuz they had no Irish tour dates (and haven't in like... 12 years lolll). Myself, my partner, and another friend all drew on white tshirts we'd get covered in spew at the concert!!

GWAR DRIP

Our first stop was Forbidden Planet to meet some of the members of GWAR ! They were selling their comic and doing a meet & greet and I was shitting myself with excitement. I was pretty disappointed Balsac and Blothar ended up not being at the meet and greet, but I got to meet Sawborg and Beefcake which was amazing !! Sawborg was extremely sweet. I was like "hey i traveled from ireland to be here i hope you kill lots of brits" and he was like "dont you worry we will". They signed my comic and my shirt for the concert and I showed them my Balsac itabag (they told me he was too hungover to show up to the meet and greet lmaooo).

When it came time for the actual concert, we ended up being right at the barrier I was so fucking happy. It was literally the greatest gig I've ever been to. We got absolutely drenched in spew. Sawborg recognised us from earlier and ended up targeting us a lot. He started spraying me and my friend's pussies with spew and we were like "HE FUCKIN OUR PUSSIES !!!!!!!!". Also they killed so many British people on stage; the queen, the king, a british police officer... so as you can imagine, the group of us 4 irish people were very happy lol. My fav songs they played were Let Us Slay and Immortal Corruptor.

I was so not normal every time Balsac was near.

Just to put into perspective exactly how soaked we got with spew, this was us before the concert, fresh faced, clean...

It took at least 4 showers to get the spew completely off me, though my fingernails were stained pink for weeks afterwards. We couldn't even sit down in our hotel room we got pink stains absolutely everywhere. All my clothes were absolutely destroyed. It was amazing. 10/10 experience. I already can't wait to see them again.

My only regret is that I didn't get to meet Balsac/Derks, though I did get to speak to Matt (Sawborg) again a little after the show. (I walked past the band while collecting chicken wings we had ordered... I was too shy to speak to anyone else and Derks wasn't there)

Honestly no other concert has been able to live up to this experience since, I'm itching to see them again so bad. I really hope they come to my country some time, and I really hope some day I can go to an American GWAR show and get put in the meat grinder... maybe some day!
