Summer Cons Update: Dokomi and Qcon!
In my previous post about summer con season, I talked about the stuff I did in May, such as travelling to Singapore for Doujima, and my little holiday in Osaka! I'm gonna be talking about what I got up to in the second half of May & a bit of June with this post!
Returning Home, MCM London & Fandom Con
It was the 18th of May when we made the trek home from Osaka to Belfast. I was so scared on the bus from Osaka to the airport because for some reason we decided "yeah we should get to the airport like an hour or two before our flight" and thought that was okay. IDK HOW... USUALLY I'M SO ANAL ABT IT AND SHOW UP 4 HOURS BEFOREHAND. Especially for a flight as big and expensive as that!? I was stressing the whole way to the airport lol BUT we made it.
Eventually, we returned home to Mocha!
When I returned home, I went straight into prep for Dokomi. Before Dokomi, though, was a small local con called Fandom Con! My gf and I actually were also offered waitlist tables for MCM London that weekend too. So we had a double booked weekend where Sarah attended MCM, I attended FandomCon, and we split our stock between us.
It was a chill, one day event for me at Fandom Con, and a very hectic busy weekend for Sarah at MCM. So I took on some of her Dokomi prep for the Sunday and pressed some of her badges for her.
Dokomi
Once again, I was at Dokomi this year! This was my fifth year at Dokomi I believe? It's insane how time flies. When I first went, it was hard to believe I was doing an event outside of Ireland & the UK. This year, I got a booth in the 18+ area. My own entire booth, for the first time ever! I've only actually gotten into Dokomi once myself, and I shared my booth with a friend. Every other time since, I've been adopted to someone's booth. I felt very out of place in the 18+ area last year, but this year got into a lot of BLVNs and had my doujin, so I was feeling a bit more confident about it!
For Dokomi, set up is on Thursday, but I usually travel on the Wednesday to give myself a day to get settled and relax a bit. I think I'd go crazy if I arrived at 9am on set up day, then waited around in the hotel lobby (bc check in isn't til 3pm) until set up opened, then set up on the same day. So on Wednesday, we got the 2am bus from Belfast to Dublin airport, then the 6am flight from Dublin to Dusseldorf, then dropped off our bags at the hotel and wandered the city until check-in time.
As soon as we were able to check in, we passed out, had a nap, and showered. That hotel room nap and shower after hours of sweaty travel always feels so mfin good... We went with a different hotel than usual this year (it was cheaper lol) and it was super nice. It was like apartment style, so we had a fridge and loads of room to hang out with friends. There was also a pool!! I regretted not bringing a swimsuit.
After our nap and shower, we met up with Amy and K for Takumi ramen!! YUM!!!!!

i feel like one of those facebook minions memes about how life is beautiful when the sun is out. sitting outside in the sun eating ramen with my friends, being excited for the con... i was havin so much fun. NGL Dokomi last year was a very stressful time for me and I didn't rly enjoy it at all but this year I was sooo hyped for it.
Thursday was set up day!! We got breakfast at a place nearby and accidentally ended up having breakfast with K and Amy since we all somehow ended up at the same place lol. It was nice being able to sleep in a bit and take our time after having to do the 2am travelling the day before.
After that, we made our way to set up!
Set up went super smoothly! I always take a while at Dokomi because so many of my friends are around and I keep getting distracted chatting lol. I was really happy with how my booth looked, too! I do wish I had made a little more, but, well. That's always how it's gonna be. I've tried doing some cute packaging for some of my items this time too, like for the Sonico chocolate charms and Saya sticker sheets. I saw some people at Doujima with nice packaging and I always thought ugggh, it's such a waste of time, but it looks so good... And now I do think it's worth it.
After set up, we ate dinner, then went to our friends' hotel to hang out for a bit before heading to bed!

For day 1 of Dokomi, I didn't cosplay, just headed straight to the con! I wanted to cosplay Aoi from Gore Screaming Show but couldn't find my skirt when packing...
Honestly I don't remember much about the con itself for the Friday... I didn't have a helper that day so I didn't rly leave my booth much. TBH I left my booth less than usual in general this year! I guess cuz I wasn't table sharing with my gf like usual, we couldn't really keep an eye on each other's stuff all the time.
We had tickets for the rave for Friday, but ended up too tired to go. I did want to see Aiobahn perform, but we already saw him two years ago, so we decided we'd do the rave on Saturday instead since that's when our friends were all going!
Friday night was still great though, we instead met up with Komo for the night and got chicken wings and sat outside chatting for ages. ♡ My favourite part of Dokomi is getting to catch up with my friends who live in mainland Europe. T___T We only get to see each other a couple of times a year so it's always really nice to have an event where everyone makes the trek to go.
On Saturday, I cosplayed Tamamori from Hashihime! My gf cosplayed too, from Mr A's Farm!
Saturday, 30th May, was also MY BIRTHDAY!!! I had a couple of friends coming and giving me gifts and cards which was very sweet... It was fun to have Dokomi fall on my bday because I was surrounded by so many friends.
That evening, I had a birthday hot pot dinner booked with my friends!
My friend Lauren had the cute idea to make photocards of me and we all did some gacha pulls for Kaz Photocards lol. I got a photocard of me as Tamamori. There was one of me as Erika Furudo, one of me as Shimbashi, one of me with Chii-tan, and a couple of others. It was so cute!! I also got a lovely family guy oosaki drawing from Rebecca!
the dinner was a little stressful cuz we got seated super late past our reservation time. then when we did get sat we only had 5 minutes to order and had to rush it and also the kitchen stopped making food so NO FRIED RICE... only hot pot meats... But. I actually ended up being rly sick and not able to ear a lot anyway LOL.
I was a little sick in the morning but I kept getting worse... And by the time we got to the restaurant I couldn't eat. I had to skip out on the rave which I was rly bummed about ;__; i had to go to the hotel room by myself while my gf and friends all went and I was shivering and shaking so bad hahaha. My gf came in at like 3am and got me a cold towel for my forehead which helped a bit. I was sweating crazy style but also super cold at the same time. My gf also put a cold towel in the freezer for me. Then when a loud thunderstorm woke us at like 5am, she got the one from the freezer and tried to give it to me but it was hard as a BRICK LMAO. She was still drunk from the night before/sleepy so she kept trying to tell me "it's fine just put it on!!" as if it wasn't like putting a big rock on my forehead hahaha. Hopefully next year I'll get to go to the rave again and won't become insanely ill!
On Sunday morning, I was still really sick, so my gf Sarah went ahead to the con and my friend who is also a lesbian named Sarah looked after my booth for me. Thank you Lesbian Sarahs.
I rested up a little bit, but on Sunday there was an Ooe meetup which I was really determined to go to so I took a load of medicine, had a hot shower, and got myself into cosplay!
The Ooe meetup was so much fun!! Suzie, the organiser, made an Oosaki pinata full of sweets which we took turns beating up with a yaoi paddle. we were all cosplaying his ukes and committing seme abuse.
It was really nice how many Ooe fans I met at this con... I've been really really invested in it since last summer so it was a lot of fun talking to so many other fans. ♡ I was going through The Horrors when I read it last year so it's become something very comforting n special to me. I read all of Adelta's works after and it made me really inspired and motivated to create. I was really burnt out on working on my visual novel after graduating uni, but playing through her games, knowing how much of it she does by herself, and just how long she has been working on her games for... It got me so motivated!! My vn files were gathering dust for months but now it's back on track. I love you doujin visual novel creators!!!
I really had such a good time at Dokomi this year, even though I got super sick for one of the days... I'm so happy I was able to enjoy it so much and see so many of my friends. Oomfchella. I hope I will be back again next year and every other year after that! But I do hope I get to see my friends on the mainland again sooner because next year's Dokomi is so far away...
I didn't do much shopping at Dokomi since I did quite a bit in Japan and at Doujima, but I have a small haul pic!
QCon
When we got home from Dokomi, it was straight into Qcon prep! Qcon is my local con, it's like a 10 minute walk from my front door, and it's also one of my favourites because I get to see so many of my friends from all over Ireland!
Honestly not a lot to say about Qcon, I was having fun hanging out with my local friends. My gf got rejected so we were sharing a table, so we were able to take turns and go and hang out and do stuff. I went to the AMV contest on Sunday! My fav was an Initial D yaoi amv with the disclaimer pictured above at the beginning. WHO on this island made that thing!? I would love to know. We had a house party on Friday night and I booked a Karaoke room for Saturday night! Then for Sunday night I got overstimulated and left everyone and ate at a restaurant by myself LOL. There were other artists in the restaurant I went to and I hope they didn't think I was like. Abandoned by my friends, or that I was in a bad mood bc I didn't talk to them, I just couldn't cope anymore LMAO. BUT IT WAS A GREAT WEEKEND!! MY OOE YAOI DOUJINSHI SOLD OUT??? I only met one person who actually knew what Ooe was but a lot of people saw the words "YAOI DOUJINSHI" and it was enough to sell them on it.
I will always be back at Qcon!! Next year, I really wanna enter the AMV contest!
Personal Stuff!
So after Doujima, Fandom Con, MCM, Dokomi, and Qcon were over, we finally had a bit of a break between cons phew... I finally bought some new furniture for this house I've been living in for well over a year now lol. Cleaned my room and rearranged my collection. It's looking really cute!
I love figure collecting. I love taking everything down and cleaning and rearranging and making everything look cute and perfect. It's rly relaxing to me... It's nice to spend time carefully dusting and arranging my cute girls and just not look at a screen for ages. And then I feel much better working in a cute, colourful, and organised room...
Aside from that! My news is that I've been making my gf watch Utapri for the first time. She's trying to steal my oshi, Masato, which I won't stand for. She has to pick a different favourite... grr thats MY boyfriend BACK OFF!! BUt i've been having a lot of fun revisiting it. it's so goofy. i think masato and tokiya should explore each others bodies.
I will update again at the end of July! :] Pls enjoy this song!
