March 2026 Update
Hey everyone !!
I may not have been posting anything new, but I have been working on a LOT this month!!
New Comic!
First off ! Myself and my partner Sarah have been working on a new comic! You may have read our other comics before, if you’re following either of us. They’re both yuri comics about weird perverted girls being in love. This time we’re making a BL comic though!
For a long time, we’ve had a crazy yuri story cooking up in our heads. But it’s going to be a very long process. It will be much longer than our previous works, and it’ll be a tough script to write as it touches on some fucked up family dynamics so I want to do a bit of research and further reading before writing it. It’s gonna be based on one of my favourite Gothic horror novels, so you can probably guess what kind of content I’m talking about hahaha
We wanted a new comic done for Dokomi this year, so we decided to put our yuri one on the backburner for now and make a short BL comic! However. It did not end up being so short at all. My script was for about 60 pages, but I think the comic is going to end up being close to 80 pages… Our longest comic so far. Oops! But I’m very excited about it! This was my first time writing a proper script for a comic. For previous scripts, I kinda just wrote “and this happens then this happens and it looks like this blah blah”, since our comics up until now have been short. I’m really happy with how the script I wrote for this BL comic turned out, I think this comic is going to turn out amazing, so I’m very excited about it!!
Unfortunately, since it did end up being way longer than we anticipated, it’s not going to be finished for Dokomi. We’re instead aiming to launch it at Y/Con in November.
Here’s some designs I did for our uke, June!
After spending so much time writing the script I’ve grown so fond of him… That’s my boy!! I love him so much. I hope everyone is excited to meet him.
Ooe Doujin
I’ve also been grinding away at my first Doujin ! For Doujima in Singapore, I’ve been wanting to make a manga-style doujin to debut at it. I’ve been working on an Ooe doujin of Oosaki x Shimbashi ! :] Ooe is still my favourite thing to draw right now… I’ve been crazy about this visual novel since May… Something about murder mystery visual novels with an ensemble cast trapped on an island always grips me. Like three of my favourite Vns are inspired by “And Then There were None” by Agatha Christie. Thanks girl for all you’ve done for the VN medium.
It’s been really really fun to work in this style and use screentones and inky pens! When it comes to art, I love colouring and rendering a lot, but I find my drawing and line art skills are a bit weaker, so this year I want to improve them. I’ve been having a great time working on this doujin, I genuinely would wake up in the morning at 8am and work on it All Day long.
Here’s some panels for it! It’s going to be 25 pages and NSFW! I’ll be putting it on my online shop and itch.io when it’s finished, so I’m excited to share it!!
I wanted to draw Shimbashi crying… So he is crying a lot in this doujin. I think some of it is a lil wonky looking especially the NSFW scenes but it’s my first time so… I’m just thinking, every time I draw a doujin it will get better and better..!!
Rambling about cons again lol
I really love Japanese doujin culture and kind of want to move more to that style of work, but… It’s impossible to completely emulate Japanese doujin culture in the west; our conventions are much, much too expensive to sell at. You’d have to be in a very good financial position to be able to go and not profit/be okay with just breaking even. And unfortunately, I am very much not rich, so I can't afford to spend so much money just for funsies... (Even tho it is fun!) Unlike Japanese events, which have short hours and cheaper table costs, European events cost hundreds – sometimes even above a thousand to attend, when including travel and hotel costs. And you’re expected to be at your booth between 8-12 hours per day on top of it.
We do have some nice cons and events in Ireland run by colleges with low table fees, but accommodation and hotels are extortionate in this country… That, and people’s tastes here are very very different to cons in mainland Europe and Japan. There is absolutely no way in hell I’d be able to have a booth with entirely Ooe merch and my doujin at a con here. I think the visual novel has like 10 fans on the island maybe...
I dunno!! Emulating Japanese doujin culture is a nice thought but not completely possible, but I do want to try my best to make more doujin comics and have more merch spread across fewer fandoms. It’s kinda a constant struggle though where I’m always like “I really want to draw This Thing!!” but then nobody in Ireland would ever buy it so when it comes to Irish events, I have to focus on drawing fandoms people will actually know, and making SFW artwork too… It’s tough!! I wish I could draw whatever I want, forever!!
Anyways I’m very excited to table in Asia for the first time ever, and to have a Doujin to show at it as well!
I’m super nervous about going for a lot of different reasons. Honestly I’ve been so busy working on comics and my visual novel, and taking commissions too, I’ve not had a lot of time to draw for it… I am really worried by table is going to be lacking and I’m already a bit mortified about it… I really hope I’m able to get some new stuff done for it, but I’m just. Very stressed and scared lol. And Dokomi is right after it too. I wish I had more time..!! And more money to manu stuff. I’m so broke lol.
Honestly I don’t have much else that is interesting to say… Literally all I’ve been doing is working day and night and watching one episode of The Sopranos per day. I hope it all pays off..!!!
